LEVOLUX DIVES INTO SIDCUP LEISURE CENTRE

Faced with the challenge of regulating temperature in a changeable, humid environment, the new Sidcup Leisure Centre needed the very best in solar shading technology – and Levolux was invited to take the plunge.

The £14million building’s front façade features expansive windows that look into the swimming areas. Specified by architects Burke Rickhards, Levolux fitted its state of the art 9000 Sunbreaker system to offer maximum solar shading to these sections and to areas at the rear of the building.

Comprising a series of horizontal 400mm aluminium Aerofoil Fins, angled in the optimum position (62º), the solar shading system developed by Levolux minimises solar heat gain, thereby reducing the centre’s reliance on expensive, energy sapping air conditioning. In

In a programme of just three weeks, Levolux interfaced seamlessly with the fenestration contractor to complete the installation of the solar shading system.

Finished in a RAL 9006 grey powder coating, the system offers a stunning contrast against the red brick and glass backdrop – highlighting the creative aesthetic potential Levolux’s Solar Shading products offer architects.

Like all Solar Shading systems from Levolux, the Aerofoil Fins used on the leisure centre are backed with the company’s design, manufacture and installation package.

Sidcup Leisure Centre has since opened its doors to the general public and is already proving a huge asset to the local community. Its facilities include a 25m, six-lane swimming pool, four court sports hall, fitness studio, dance studio and crèche.
