Hornsey Street Waste and Recycling Centre
Louvres Provide Breath of Fresh Air for Waste Recycling Plant
The new, state of the art Hornsey Street Waste and Recycling Centre in
North London – part of the regeneration package funded on the back of the new £357 million Arsenal stadium – is now fully operational and benefiting from quiet, natural ventilation thanks to a series of louvres by Levolux.
The £60 million waste and recycling centre, designed by Robinson Architects, has been built on a site which has been derelict for 20 years and will provide a facility for North London Waste Authority’s transfer station and Islington Council’s civic amenity site, both of which had to be relocated to make way for the new stadium.
a more comfortable environment for everyone
To meet the high environmental specification of the building, Levolux supplied 40 acoustic R-Type louvres and plenums. These not only allow fresh air intake but also generate no additional noise. This provides a more comfortable working environment within the building and protects the residents of the London Borough of Islington who live on the fringe of the development from additional noise nuisance.
just 12 weeks to design, manufacture and install
Levolux took just 12 weeks to design, manufacture and install the louvres and plenums. The forty 305 mm deep external acoustic R-Type louvres run along both sides of the building and were manufactured to fit the building’s existing openings. Seventeen plenums - 4.6m wide by 3m tall – of 100m-thick steel acoustic panelwork and splitters, were positioned behind the louvres.
Like all systems from Levolux, the louvres are backed with the company’s design, manufacture and installation package.
