Levolux controls light & glare

A combination of glare and heat gain in the glass atrium of their new headquarters building presented the Oracle Corporation UK with a problem so, having previously applied dark film to the glazing which proved aesthetically unsatisfactory, the computer software company turned to solar shading specialists Levolux to provided a solution.

The Glare was making it difficult for staff to work

The HQ building is one of a number occupied by Oracle in the Thames Valley Business Park at Reading in Berkshire. The glare within the atrium was making it difficult for staff to work at computer screens while the heat gain was causing discomfort. Motorised Levolux 780 internal roller blinds were selected as the most appropriate means of alleviating the problems since bespoke systems can be created and a single blind is capable of covering a large area of glazing.

In all twelve blinds measuring some 2.5m wide with drops of up to 5m were installed. Manufactured of super weave fabric, a striking pewter colour was specially chosen because of its high performance but, while cutting glare and solar gain, the open weave of this fabric means that it still offers good outward vision.

So that the system would integrate fully with the steelwork of the atrium special bracketry was manufactured to wrap around the large tubular posts which form the building’s main framework. These brackets were powder coated in white to match and maintain the overall high-tech look. The system is fully automated, may be programmed to operate at set times and has a manual override switched from the central reception desk.
