MAKING IT COOL AT MORRISONS June 2009
As the UK’s leading Solar Shading specialist, Levolux installed its fabricated aluminium Brise Soleil and Aerofoil Fins to help combat solar heat gain within the complex. While summer temperatures soar, the Levolux solar shading system works effectively to help maintain a naturally cool environment for shoppers without the need for expensive, energy sapping air conditioning.
Part of Edinburgh’s regeneration plans, the new Morrisons’ store, designed by 3DReid, was built upon a 9.5 acre brown-field site. It is set to bring new life to the waterfront area on the banks of the Firth of Forth, just outside Edinburgh. In addition to the new Morissons’ store, the development comprises offices and student accommodation for the adjacent Telford College.
Levolux installed 400mm wide long span Aerofoil Fins around the car parking area, free spanning up to 8 metres between concrete columns. The same 400mm wide Aerofoil Fins were also installed at high level along a parapet and around the main entrance, integrating with the curtain walling.
As an extension of the Levolux Solar Shading system, students at Telford College also benefit from cool, comfortable accommodation, with 200mm Aerofoil Fins installed vertically across three panels of glazing of the student accommodation areas.
Finished in an attractive, co-ordinated grey powder coating, Levolux’s Aerofoil Fins not only provide an eye-catching aesthetic feature, they also boost the site’s green credentials and create a more pleasant environment for shoppers and students alike.
