Glasgow Harbour

Glasgow Harbour is an exciting new district being developed to the west of Glasgow, with a collection of high-rise residential towers fitted with a Levolux glass balustrading and screening solution.

As one of the UK’s leading balcony and balustrading specialists, Levolux was chosen to design, manufacture and install glass balustrading, Juliet balconies and privacy screens for phase two of the Glasgow Harbour development.

The glass balustrading solution comprises steel first-fix brackets, extruded aluminium posts, toughened glass panels and extruded aluminium handrails.

Once the steel brackets were in place, secured back to curtain walling, Levolux attended site to install the aluminium posts, each measuring 125mm wide by 17mm thick, set at 1 metre centres. The posts are pre-drilled to accept custom cast aluminium brackets for accommodating a tubular, extruded aluminium handrail and the toughened glass panels.

Glass panels, each measuring almost 1 metre wide and 1.1 metres in height, are formed from 12mm thick clear toughened glass. Each glass panel has been heat soaked for four hours to reduce the risk of breakage and is supplied with polished edges.

To complement the glass balustrading, Levolux also provided glass Juliet balconies, based on the same specification, in addition to a series of dividing glass privacy screens. The same 12mm thick toughened glass has been used to form privacy screens, which are a metre wide by almost 2.5 metres high. To maintain privacy, each screen has been acid etched, giving them a frosted, opaque finish.

The aluminium posts and handrails provided by Levolux have been given an attractive, natural anodised finish.
