THE SCIENCE OF SOLAR SHADING May 2009
Levolux’s innovative Solar Shading solution was the perfect energy saving system for NAPP Pharmaceutical’s new offices in Cambridge Science Park and helps to maintain a cool, comfortable environment for its employees all year round.
The project represents NAPP Pharmaceuticals expansion within Cambridge Science Park – the oldest in the UK – with several offices already in place. Designed by architect Aukett Fitzroy Robinson, the buildings comprise three floors of modern architectural design.
Totalling over 120,000sq ft, each of the pharmaceutical company’s three new buildings features substantial glazing. With Levolux’s 9000 series Fin System in place, the structures benefit from huge reductions in solar heat gain. This reduces the need for air-conditioning, which in turn cuts energy costs throughout the year and particularly during the summer.
The Levolux solution incorporated four rows of 400mm wide perforated, fabricated aluminium Aerofoil Fins, individually secured by means of bespoke Levolux curtain walling brackets. With mitred corners, the system enhances the overall aesthetic of the buildings, running around the perimeter of both the first and second floors.
With its cool grey powder coated finish and stainless steel fixings, the Levolux system is virtually maintenance free and like all Levolux solar shading systems, is backed by the company’s design, manufacture and installation package, along with a three year warranty.
